ZEN LAW SOLICITORS

Practical advice for other legal matters.

Not every legal problem is a compensation claim. Zen Law also provides privately funded advice and representation in selected landlord and tenant matters, lease drafting, debt recovery and general civil litigation. We will discuss the scope of the work, the likely steps and the funding arrangement before you instruct us.

A bright meeting space for legal discussions

Landlord and Tenant

We advise on selected landlord and tenant disputes and related property matters. The right approach depends on the tenancy or occupation arrangements, the terms of the relevant agreement and the nature of the dispute. We will review the available documents, identify the practical and legal issues and advise on the appropriate next steps. This service is distinct from our claimant Housing Disrepair work.

Lease Drafting

Clear lease documentation can reduce uncertainty and help avoid disputes later. We can assist with the drafting and review of leases and related provisions for matters we accept, taking instructions on the property, parties, commercial terms and the practical arrangements the document needs to reflect. Any wider property, tax or specialist advice outside our agreed scope will be identified where relevant.

Debt Recovery

Unpaid debts can place real pressure on individuals and businesses. We can advise on the recovery of undisputed or disputed civil debts, including pre-action correspondence, negotiation and, where appropriate, court proceedings and enforcement options. Before significant costs are incurred, we will consider proportionality, the value of the debt, the evidence available and the practical prospects of recovery.

General Litigation

We act in selected civil disputes where early, practical advice can make a material difference. Depending on the matter, this may include reviewing the contractual or factual background, advising on merits and risk, preparing or responding to pre-action correspondence, negotiating settlement and conducting court proceedings where appropriate. We will tell you at the outset whether the dispute is within our areas of practice and what further information we need.

Private funding

These services are generally privately funded. Our Client Care Letter will set out the work we have agreed to undertake and the basis on which we will charge. Depending on the matter, this may involve a fixed fee, an agreed fee for a particular stage or time-spent charges. VAT and third-party disbursements may also be payable. We may ask for money on account before work begins or before third-party expenditure is incurred. If the scope changes materially, we will discuss the position and any revised estimate or additional fee with you wherever reasonably practicable.

Need advice on a landlord and tenant issue, lease, unpaid debt or civil dispute? Tell us briefly what has happened and we will let you know whether it is a matter we can assist with.
